BIG HAIR IS BIG BUSINESSSHE HAIR EXTENSIONS TREND REPORT

Growing up in the South, if there’s one thing you’ve known for a long time: it’s that BIG HAIR is BIG BUSINESS. From Texas hair to retro big Hollywood blowouts, this has been a year for the biggest, fullest, longer since the 80’s and 90s’. As written for Allure Magazine by reporter Olivia Hebert:

“The higher the hair, the closer to God. Women in states like Louisiana, Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama are known to rock big, bold hair no matter what’s trendy at the time.”

This year however, something is the air, as big “country girl” hair is trending everywhere in music, fashion, TV, and film. Designers including Louis Vuitton, Chloé and Molly Goddard recently joining the likes of Tom Ford, Ralph Lauren, Isabel Marant and Stella McCartney are all on board for western-inspired aesthetic under the “cowgirl core” or #TexasHair flag.

What is the Trend?
It is the classic big blowout hair of the 80s and 90s updated for a new era, gravity-defying volume and height (thanks to hair extensions). Beyoncé’s “Renaissance Act II” album and her hit single “Texas Hold ‘Em” shone a bright light on country music and style.

What’s Different?
Unlike 80s blowouts that were perhaps more stiffer, the Texas country hair look has more movement and touchable softness. There’s volume and exaggerated length with a bigger silhouette, but the overall look is less of a siff helmet of hair.

Who’s Wearing It?
Miley Cyrus paid homage to her Nashville roots and famous godmother, Dolly Parton, at the 2024 Grammys. On the look, the “Flowers” singer’s longtime hairstylist Bob Recine told People, “I’ve been working with Miley for a long time and tonight we wanted to create different than last year, with a style that felt like it had a ‘70s, Barbarella feel while still having a modern, punk edge. By creating a big hair look, while still leaving some of the teasing visible, it allows the look to maintain a fresh, sexy feeling.

Stock up on extensions, working spray and leave-in conditioner, because 2025 the trend still is going strong!
